Food nourishes the soul. So it's not a surprise that while being stuck at home, many of us are snacking much more than usual. Do you find yourself taking frequent trips to the pantry? Opening it just to see what's in there? Us too! Now, while food does comfort us, it's also important to think about the nutrients we are putting into our body. It's all about having a good balance. Here are a few of our favorite quarantine snacks (healthy and not-so-healthy sweet treats). Comment below with some of your favorites!
Peanut Butter Toast with Sliced Bananas
We love using Ezekiel Bread. It can be found in the vegetarian section of the freezer aisle at your local grocery store. Ezekiel Bread is sprouted whole grain bread with absolutely no flour. Top with a thin layer of peanut butter or almond butter. Add sliced bananas and drizzle honey on top for extra sweetness (optional).
Trader Joes Brownie Crisp Coffee Ice Cream Sandwiches
These sweet treats taste like a little bit of heaven! Coffee ice cream sandwiched between two chocolate chip brownie crisps, this snack is the perfect dessert and only $3.99 at your local Trader Joes.
Looking for a quick snack in between meals? Or the perfect side with your afternoon hoagie? Cheez-Its are the perfect classic.
Acai Bowls are one of our favorite snacks at MILK and Co. Loaded with fresh fruits, these bowls boost your immune system, supporting your body with vitamins and minerals. If you want to support your local businesses during these tough times, try ordering to-go or delivery from some of our favorites: South Block or Jrink Juicery.
Another sweet treat, yet still on the healthy side are yogurt parfaits. These are quick to make, and prove to be fun "instagrammable" treats. Our favorite parfait combination includes mangoes, pineapples, and strawberries. Layer with vanilla yogurt, honey granola, chia seeds, and honey.
These tasty snacks from Smuckers remind us of our youth. This soft bread Peanut Butter and Jelly combo takes the guesswork out of your favorite snack and already has the crust removed!
PB & Strawberry Rice Cakes
Top Quaker's Honey Rice Cakes with nutella, almond or peanut butter and your favorite fruit.
Cereal (more specifically Cap'n Crunch Berries)
This time at home is a great opportunity to enjoy things you normally don't have the chance to. Be honest. How often do you have time to eat cereal before rushing out the door to get to work? While working from home, this is a great excuse to enjoy your favorite cereals. Our favorite is Cap'n Crunch (don't forget the berries). If you are aiming for something healthier, try Special K's Red Berry cereal and top with sliced bananas.
Just because we are snacking, doesn't mean we can't be healthy right? Take this time to make fresh smoothies and test out new flavors! Our favorite immunity booster is our homemade green smoothie. Mix together coconut water, kale, yogurt, pineapples, mangoes, and chia seeds. This will not only leave you feeling great, it will also infuse your body with vitamin C (helps reduce symptoms of a cold).
Chocolate Dipped Banana Bites
These frozen treats are a semi-healthy snack that can help satisfy your sweet craving. Here's how: Slice bananas into 1/2 inch thick pieces. Spread peanut butter, pair, and dip halfway into melted chocolate sauce. Lay out on parchment paper and freeze. Enjoy!
